merge layers disappearing

When I shade with hatching and then merge with the drawing layer all of the shading disappears. This seems to have started recently as I have done this- rather simple- process on over 200 pages previously. It does this with either 'merge layers' or 'merge with layer below.'
Screen clip shows layer stack and shading/hatching. This is not a sophisticated layering arrangement, I think you'll agree!

I tried to replicate your process and I'm also able to merge both layers without problem.
I'm intrigued by that "1% line" though, I can't find any line tone patterns under 5% in the material, where did you find that pattern?
Maybe it's so thin it disappears when you merge but it's just an idea.

Aha. I changed the setting to 5% for completely unrelated reasons and the problem resolved.

Intuitively, though, why would shading disappear even if it's that thin- unless the DPI setting has something to do with it. Was working at 300 dpi.

Rafchu- the 'settings' button with the shading selection does allow one to change several aspects of any given shading (at least in monochrome). I use the 'angle' settings constantlywhile shading line art/comics/cartoons!
