I have the 4.0 EX perpetual on my PC. I have an iPad and I would like the subscription on my iPad. But I don't understand which liscence I'm supposed to buy. With my perpetual account, it says I have to but "Up to two devices" to be able to get a 50% discount. But on other screens, it says I can get it "One device" plan but everything is normal price. I like the discount, but why is it making me buy the Two Devices Plan? Is that normal? Am I getting ripped off. I like the PRO 17.99 yearly deal, but I don't understand why it says two devices.

If you own any of the unlimited versions and have other devices, you can get a discount on the 2-device plan for the first year only.

You can use it on two devices, including tablets and smartphones.

    EX 2-device plan discount

・This plan is recommended for those who use both a computer and a tablet.

・This plan can be used on two devices, such as a computer and a tablet, at a discounted price for those who have the unlimited version and paid in full.

・You can use the new features from Ver. 4.0 onwards in advance.

    iPad / Android / Windows / macOS / iPhone

As stated on the Japanese website above.

If you do not want to upgrade the unlimited version itself, you can use the latest version while the update plan is applied.

This is the most reasonable option for unlimited version owners.

Users have more options, such as which version they own, whether to keep it, or upgrade it. Therefore, there are many plans.

This special EX 2 device plan is cheaper than usual for the first year only,
so it will be the regular price after that period.
It's like a trial that allows you to use it cheaper on 2 devices for the first year only.

The price for 1 device remains the same, so it's not a good deal unless you have 2 or more devices.
If you have 1 device, it's basically cheaper than the price for 2 devices, so I think it's not eligible in the first place.

The payment plan is complicated, so if you don't want to bother upgrading the unlimited version one by one, it may be more expensive than that, but
It's easy to do, so you can apply the EX 2 device plan to your PC and use that license on other devices.
In this case, you can keep the version you own and use the unlimited version as a separate license.

You cannot have multiple CLIP STUDIO accounts (only one per person),
but you can have multiple licenses.
    Account ≠ license.

You aren't being forced. You choose how many devices you want to use. If you have license for PC already, then you need only 1 device subscription for ipad. Keep in mind duo device plan sounds cheap for now, but it is limited to only a year long subscription. After that you pay the price without a discount as usual. You also are looking at pro, which means you lose functions from EX on your PC, you will not be able to edit files the same between devices. You ipad will always hate the lates features, but PC won't. You would need an update pass for PC or replace it subscription, as in you get duo and activate on both ipad and Pc leaving your perpetual license to just sit there. For EX duo is 103.99 and update pass+single is 108.98. The difference is really small. You decide what you want.

The subscription plan allows you to always use the latest version regardless of the device.
You need to apply for the number of devices you will be using.
With the subscription plan, you cannot switch between multiple devices with one license.
To prevent unauthorized use, there is a limit to the number of times you can authenticate.

It seems that you have the unlimited version Ver. 4.0 on your PC, but you will only be able to use it up to Ver. 4.0.X unless you upgrade the unlimited version itself or apply the update plan.
After Ver. 4.1.X or 5.0 are released, the current version will not be compatible.

Therefore, if you want to apply the update plan or upgrade in the future,
the EX 2 device plan is also in your consideration.
That's why it's in the preferential plan.

If you are not particularly planning on upgrading, I think it would be fine to not use it and subscribe to the 1-device plan for the iPad.

    Important:
After purchasing the Update Pass, your perpetual, one-time purchase license will be invalid until the pass expires.

As mentioned above, the update plan is the most reasonable option because it is a preferential plan for holders of any unlimited version.
However, since the update plan allows you to use the latest version temporarily during the contract period (automatic renewal unless canceled),
you cannot purchase an upgrade for the unlimited version itself while the update plan is in effect.
This is because the unlimited version is linked to the update plan and switched to it.
If you are also considering the unlimited version itself, you should consider the timing of when to apply for the update plan.

There was a typo in the last sentence. It has been corrected as follows.

If you are also thinking about upgrading the unlimited version itself, you should think about the timing of applying for the update plan.
It seems that summer sales are held every year for now, so you can apply for the update plan when the price is lower than usual,
and you may also be able to upgrade the unlimited version itself at a sale price.

In Japan, there was a sale just recently.
Ver. 4.0 was released in March, so I think the sale will take place in about three months. *It is not clear whether there will be a sale at the same time next year.

By the way, upgrading the unlimited version itself is quite expensive (about twice the price of the current update plan).
Unless you are sure that you want to have that version,
I think it would be better to apply the update plan.

At the moment, a new version is released every year, so the period during which you can use the released version is not very long.
It is a relatively short period of one year.
I understand that the update plan is reasonable and easy to continue, but
it does not upgrade the unlimited version you have, so when the contract expires, you will return to the version you have.

When upgrading the unlimited version itself, you cannot skip the versions in between and upgrade to any version you want.
・ Upgrade by paying the difference in price
・ Purchase the unlimited version separately during a sale (it will be counted as a separate license from the one you currently have)
    ・ Apply the update plan
You can do one of the following.

Of course, it is also possible to maintain the current version without upgrading.
It is up to the user to decide which version to maintain.

If you subscribe to the 1-device plan on your iPad, you will always be able to use the latest version of CLIP STUDIO PAINT on your iPad.
If you have the unlimited version, it will remain at that version unless you upgrade using the method mentioned above,
so unless you match the versions, there will eventually be a difference.
Please note that you will not be able to edit new features, etc., on the older version.

The following typo has been corrected.
Currently, a new version is released every year, so the period during which the new version can be used is not very long.
The period is a relatively short span of one year.

One concern is that before the release of version 3.0, it was announced that the unlimited version of version 1 would no longer be supported.
It seems that this has now been postponed, but it would not be surprising if it were to be unsupported again at any time.

Even with version 1, you can currently use the latest version while you are using an update plan,
so I hope that this policy will not change in the future.
It is best to keep this in mind, as you do not know when the company's policy will change.
