The distinction between line art and color is unclear

I have a question about color distinction.
When I paint a color close to black inside a black line, it doesn't really distinguish well, and it looks weird.
Is there anything I can do about this? I have attached some images, but I'd like to get the second one to have a clear distinction between the lines and the colors. Could someone please explain?

In the attached image, you can see that the line art is black,
but colors that are close to that black or darker will be difficult to see.
Contrast also affects color schemes, so it might be a good idea to gain some more knowledge about that.
