i always thought the black + white was depressing, i want an update to be able to input multiple of my own drawings to the background to inspire myself when i open it. i know that typically you open clip studio and your "projects" are there, but the blankness of opening CSP just about gives me art block. i basically want a gallery but straight into CSP

There is currently no such feature.
Please send a request clearly explaining why you need it.

    As an alternative:
    https://tips.clip-studio.com/en-us/articles/683
Although it's not the background itself in CLIP STUDIO PAINT,
you can load any image you like into the Subview palette.

Starting with version 2.2, you can also display a list of loaded images.
Images registered here are saved as workspace preferences when the application is closed normally.
Images registered in the Subview palette can be redisplayed the next time the application is launched.
(Images are retained until deleted from the Subview palette.)

The Subview palette can also be separated from the palette dock and placed in a floating state, allowing you to maintain its placement.

You may also want to consider using PureRef and an application for reference images.

The official PureRef video also provides an introduction to what it is like.
