Having reference outside the canvas

Hello, I would like to know if there is a way to put picture references in the gray area outside the canvas. I know there is a function to put the image on a window but I dont like that feature at all, because it makes it way harder to move arround the drawing since the area becomes smaller.
If there is not a way to do that, it would be appreciated if it got implemented. Thank you :)

You can't put a reference image on it because you can't see the outside of the canvas.

I think the subview palette is the best way to display reference images.

Place the subview out of the way on the canvas.
    The workspace can be customized.

there is a sub view at the right of the whole window, beside the navigator, you can pull it out with long pressing the sub view and drag. insert a picture by the file like icon and clear the picture with the dustbin.
