CSP freezes when opening the drawing engine

pressing paint to start a new drawing or when pressing on already existing works it opens the "software is starting, please wait" window then the big window and just get's the "stopped responding" status , waiting for some time does nothing and I couldn't find anything on the web on how to fix the issue
I haven't tried reinstalling it yet because I'm afraid of losing my settings for certain brushes and other settings
help would be appreciated
