How long do I have to activate an Ipad key?

I've just ordered an Ipad and it will take a little over a week to arrive. However I would like to purchase the subscription while it's on sale. How long do I have to activate the code before it expires, or do I need to have my Ipad with me for the process to work?

2 years agoCurrently, the activation code obtained with the 1-year prepaid plan under discount sale has no expiration date. It's OK even one year ahead.
