Just use the fonts installed on the system, not just the CSP.

Those boxes are commonly referred to as "tofu" and you are correct in guessing that it's a font issue. Those boxes occur when the selected font doesn't have the characters you want to type, like Japanese. To fix it, all you need to do is use fonts that have Japanese characters within the font. Default fonts like Yu Mincho have Japanese character sets, but if you want more variety you'll need to download additional fonts on to your computer which will then be available for use in Clip Studio Paint and other software on your computer. The process varies by which operating system your computer runs, but the install is usually fairly easy.

Google has their NOTO (no tofu) font series that contains those characters and is free, there are also websites that offer free downloads specifically for Japanese fonts. Searching google will get you those sites, but you need to make sure to double check their usage rules as some fonts restrict their usage for a fee.
