Is there a way to turn one layer into a new file?

Say you sketched out a character, but didn`t end up liking the pose for the final image, so instead of simply making a new file, you add a new layer. Then after getting halfway into the WIP you`re working on you find out you want to keep the sketches you`ve hidden underneath, is it then possible to save that layer as a separate file?

Just hide all the other layers except the one you like and save the file (rename it so it doesn't overwrite your original file).
You can also CTRL+C the layer you like, then go "File-new from clipboard" to get the canvas with just that layer visible, then save that file.

Save it with a different name, then delete and overwrite the other layers.
Alternatively, hide the other layers and export with “Merge and export images”.

Alternatively, you can drag and drop the layer you want to keep into the material folder and save it as a material, although it does not become a separate file.
