2 years agoNot the answer.
The attached Photoshop sphere picture is expressed by using dithering for gradation, so it looks pseudo-smooth.
On the other hand, the picture of the sphere of CLIP STUDIO PAINT does not seem to use dithering, so the banding is conspicuous.
I haven't tried various things, but it may be a functional difference.
Since the color depth of Photoshop is such that 16-bit color and 32-bit color can be used, even 8-bit color may have high shading ability.
Also, Photoshop may have had the option of dithering.
I'm not in front of my desktop right now so I don't know.- Japanese

2 years agoBoth soft brushes are the default ones. There's no option for "dithering" in neither Photoshop nor CSP (at least I haven't seen one yet). So that's nothing to consider either. There might be a dithering build into the soft brush of Photoshop internally. If so - it works well.
The file is in 8-Bit - so no difference between the two programs here.

2 years agoBy the way, I drew it with "CLIP STUDIO PAINT" in the figure below, but the feeling that the banding is extremely conspicuous is
did not do it.
I will put 3 types.
The edges of the circle are not intentionally antialiased.
(1) The one drawn as it is.
(2) "JPEG noise removal" from the filter menu is applied.
(3) Furthermore, "Smoothing" of the filter menu is applied.
I feel that the banding is a little cleaner when the JPEG noise is removed.
It is a personal impression.
The preview image in this answer box is displayed small, so if it is left as it is, the image may deteriorate and the banding may look exaggerated.- Japanese

2 years agoThanks for your time and answer.
In your sphere there is less banding, but it's still there. I've attached an image with a curve adjustment that emphasizes the banding. And there it's also clearly visible, that Photoshop uses some internal dithering indeed. So I'm sure that the banding will be less, if one paints "slower" with more strokes and less opacity. But the proper comparison is to paint with the same technique and then compare the results. And my two spheres were painted in the about the same amount of time/strokes.
So I guess the issue boils down to the question, if it would be possible to add some internal dithering (and even if only optionally) to make the soft brush blend better.

2 years agoMaybe some of the Japanese native speaker could make a request for a dithering option for the soft brush in the Japanese request forum. For a non-Japanese speaker it's very hard to post something there. That would be awesome. Feel free to use my example images.

2 years agoIt may be a good idea to improve the painting method and try filters such as JPEG noise reduction.
The rest is a relaxing method, but there may be a way to eliminate banding by searching the web, so I recommend you to try it.
I understand how it feels, but since "CLIP STUDIO PAINT" is not "Photoshop", I think it can't be helped that the specifications are different.
I think it's a good idea to post your opinions and requests to the support desk.
I also have many functions in "Photoshop" that I really want to add to "CLIP STUDIO PAINT", so I posted it as a request in the past.- Japanese

2 years agoI've already sent this issue via the inquiry report form. But this is such an uni-directional method and I don't even know if somebody takes a look at it at all. The request forum (the Japanese one) is a bit better and people can vote for a request there. Maybe issues get a better resonance there.
It would be great id there was a place where developers would leave some responses to issues as well.- English
