I want to remove the background but I can't seem to do it.

To remove the background, go to the menu, select area → color range → click on the white part with the leftmost pen. If it's an illustration, it's almost a one-click process. However, the selection will leave the shadow part of the object (apple). Even if I adjust the selection area with the plus pen and minus pen, it doesn't work. It's so confusing that even the bright parts of the apple are selected.

The selection function in CLIP STUDIO PAINT is not very versatile.
In some cases, it may be quicker to erase by hand using the eraser tool.

clsp is basically a drawing software and is not suitable for photo editing.
Modifying existing images is not included in its uses, and the selection tool basically just checks for continuity of the same color and converts it into a selection area, so it probably won't work. In the first place, it is only human values to distinguish between background and subject when expressing something in an image.

Personally, I think it would be useful to have such a function because I cut out parts from a rough sketch and draw the details for each part.
It is hard to say because it costs money and takes time to upgrade if you aim for too many functions.
If you dare to use clsp, you can manually create a mask for the side you want to keep and erase the other parts, or use the eraser tool to erase them, or whatever method you like.
