How come when using the wand tool or the fill tool it doesn't select one color sometimes?

Whenever I'm trying to use the wand tool or the fill bucket it will proceed to go out of boundaries of what I am wanting selected. For instance, say you put in a filled red square and blue one next to each other on the same layer, then tried using the wand to only grab the red square or using the bucket to only fill in the red square a different color, it ends up effecting both squares when you only wanted the red. So, how come the wand and bucket cannot only grab onto one color? Examples of what I mean are in my photos, the first two being the wand tool and fill tool in action and the last one is what I wanted to happen. As you can see the wand tool and fill tool are wanting to fill in the entire boot instead of only grabbing/filling the gray area I wanted.

    WWhyNot, my friend...
Could you kindly set the color margin at 0 and tell me if the problem persist?

It proceeded to do the same thing,, except for when I changed it to refer to other layers it didn't take over the entire boot but there is still a border around the area.

Ok, the wand tool work perfectly is just a matter of settings. ^ ^
Now you just need to set the area scaling to 0, the area scaling is an automated action that you can set in which the selection is expanded automatically.
In your case will be 10px. I really reccomend you to put this value on 1px, but find the value in which you find yourself more comfortable. ^ ^
In the case of similar color, like brown and a burnt sienna color , the software cannot differenciate between them if you don't put a really small value on color margin. In your case something like 0 to 15, but even in this case find the value in which you're more comfortable.
If you have more question about this argument don't hesitate to send me a direct message. ^ ^
