using galaxy phone as companion to galaxy book 2 pro

recently purchased a galaxy book 2 pro and wanted to continue to use my phone in companion mode.
however when i try to connect the 2 it constantly says i need to check if i am using the same connection.
i have and still it says the same.
firewall is not blocking anything either.
they are the same version clip studio paint.
i have an annual dual device subscription to the EX version.
Neither of the devices are too old for use.
anyone know what else could cause trouble?
