I want to use shortcut keys with the pen grounded on the canvas

It's an iPad.
For example, when you want to switch from a pen to an eraser with a short key,
It will not switch unless you release the pen from the canvas and then press the key.
Is there a way to switch tools with shortcut keys while the pen is grounded on the canvas?
