Can't draw with pen, only with mouse

Hi I'm new to Clip Studio. I just downloaded the 30-day trial version. I connected a Wacom Bamboo Create pad, and I can use the pen for navigating and selecting, but it will NOT draw anything. I can draw with my mouse, so I know the software works.
Am I missing a setting or control that will activate the pen? I have seen other users posting that they successfully use older versions of Wacom tablets so I think it *should* work. Thank you in advance for any suggestions.
